However, not many know that the story of the Lacoste Crocodile began in 1927 when French tennis player Rene Lacoste got his nickname, The Crocodile. He made a bet with the captain of the French Davis Cup team who promised to buy him a crocodile skin suitcase if he won an important match for the team. Although Lacoste did not win the bet, he was nicknamed The Crocodile and his polo shirts, which he wore while playing tennis and initially designed only for himself, got a trademark, a little green crocodile, carrying the following meaning: never let your prey go.
