Reebok

The history of Reebok dates back to 1895, to a small town of Bolton, England, where a company belonging to the Foster family began manufacturing athletic shoes simply because athletes wanted to run faster! It did not take long for the family business to gather an international clientele including many distinguished athletes, so that in 1958 two of the grandsons from the Foster family founded a company that they named after a type of African gazelle, Reebok. The company's headquarters were moved to the U.S. in 1979 and since then Reebok has been expanding internationally. In 1982, Reebok designed a women's shoe for a new type of fitness exercise called aerobic dance. This shoe was named Freestyle and with it Reebok predicted the three major trends that changed the landscape of the footwear industry: aerobic, women's integration in the world of sports and sneakers as everyday footwear used also for other purposes besides sports activities. A Freestyle sneaker is now a classic model and Reebok's bestselling athletic shoe of all time. In 1992, Reebok began a transformation from a company being primarily identified with fitness and exercise into a company that is equally involved in sports. Today, Reebok is one of the world's leading designers and distributors of athletic, fitness and casual footwear, apparel and equipment sold in over 170 countries worldwide.
