Converse All-Star sneakers, fondly known as Chucks or Cons, became popular after basketball player Chuck Taylor started wearing them as his preferred shoes. In 1923, they were even named after him. Chuck Taylor thus became the first athlete to lend his name to protect a fashion brand. Chucks became very popular after World War II and were produced in different varieties. They became a symbol of youth rebellion and individuality and, although designed for basketball, there was something in their audacity and brilliance that made them irresistible to generations of rockers, punk rockers, skaters and all those who look at life a little differently, wishing to change the world for the better and celebrate the spirit of originality and individuality.
